Only 3 Leeds schools are open today as many are shut due tos snow
Only a handful of schools in Leeds have today taken the decision to continue teaching despite the severe weather conditions.
As of 9am this morning, 117 schools have announced they would not be open today following heavy snowfall throughout yesterday and overnight. It comes after the Met Office issued an amber and a yellow weather warning for snow and ice for Leeds, with widespread disruption on the roads and public transport expected.
Flight cancellations are also possible. Due to the treacherous conditions on the roads, dozens of schools across Leeds have deemed it unsafe to open to pupils and staff today.Only three schools have so far announced they would continue to operate. Ashfield Primary School in Weston Lane said teaching would resume with a skeleton staff "for those families who need us".
Meanwhile, Collingham Lady Elizabeth Hastings' C of E Primary School will start at 10.30am today and Rothwell Victoria Junior School at 10am to allow for the clearing of the site. Below is a list of all Leeds schools that will be closed today - and the three that are still open. Please be advised the below list is subject to change.
