The widespread outages include nearly 9,500 FirstEnergy customers in Geauga County as of 3:30 p.m.
Mike Griffin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said the strongest wind gust thus far today was 71 miles per hour in Parma at about 1:45 p.m. That wind gust was associated with thunderstorms that were and still are blowing through the area, he added.Griffin said pea-sized hail is also coming through the area with the rain and thunderstorms.
