Roads in Glasgow city centre have been closed to traffic as a pro-Palestine demonstration takes place in the city centre. Thousands have gathered on Buchanan Street calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The demonstration organised by the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign began at 1pm at the Buchanan Street steps with crowds filling the busy shopping street.
Bath Street has been closed to all traffic between North Hanover Street and West Nile Street while the protest is on. It follows a Remembrance Day service which took place in George Square at the Centotaph earlier in the day with a wreath laying ceremony and then march past and salute the front of the City Chambers.
Protests have been taking place across the country with counter-protesters clashing with officers ahead of a pro-Palestine demonstration on Armistice Day in London. The event is expected to be one of the largest political marches in British history. Scuffles broke out as police attempted to stop a crowd of people carrying St George's flags marching along Embankment towards Whitehall, where the Cenotaph is located, shortly after 10am on Saturday.Scotland's First Minister Humza Yousaf called for Braverman to resign after violence broke out ahead of the march.
He posted on X: "The far-right has been emboldened by the Home Secretary. She has spent her week fanning the flames of division. They are now attacking the Police on Armistice Day. The Home Secretary's position is untenable. She must resign."
