The total amount the DWP has paid out to qualifying claimants is around £74 million, equating to an average of £5,285 per person
The Department for Work and Pensions has sent an urgent message to claimants of Personal Independence Payment as they may be owed huge cash pay outs.
It is decided following an assessment with a number of criteria and points are awarded for being able to carry out everyday activities and move around. This then determines whether a person is eligible for PIP and how much they'll get. In a written statement, Tom Pursglove, DWP Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work, explained: "Given the complexity of the exercise we started at a relatively small scale, prioritising terminally ill and recently deceased claimants, testing our processes and communications with claimants, to ensure they are effective before ramping up. All reviews have been carried out by a case manager within the department.
He added: "Confident that reviews are achieving the right outcomes for claimants, we have completed upskilling additional staff available for this exercise and expect to complete the review of all cases available to the exercise by the end of 2025. "I believe that prioritising cases where claimants are more likely to be entitled to more support is the correct approach. The department plans to publish a further update next year."A Government progress report on the claim reviews said: "This is a complex exercise, with a large number of unique and sensitive cases.
