The San Francisco restaurant's offerings went from a tavern-style burger to a smashburger, which left some fans upset.
The first iteration of Maybeck’s, at 3213 Scott St. in the Marina District, opened in 2015. It was a neighborhood spot known for its beef Wellington special on Wednesday nights, according toIn June of last year, owner Aaron Toensing brought in Lori Baker and Jeffrey Banker, who previously owned the restaurant Baker & Banker, to re-imagine what Maybeck’s could be.
It turned into a classy, upscale restaurant known for its copper J-shaped bar near the entrance that commanded attention. Food-wise, the new Maybeck’s was known for fresh vegetables, seafood and housemade pasta. However, the owners altered the burger concept from a tavern-esque style — piled high with accouterments similar to the burgers at Nopa or Spruce — to a smashburger, which leftThe reinvented Maybeck’s had a solid 4.0 Yelp rating with more than 330 reviews.
In a press release, Toensing, Baker and Banker expressed they hope to see a new form of the restaurant sometime soon. They thanked their staff, guests and others who made Maybeck’s what it was.
