Tom Rasmussen and Hugh Wyld knew that good friends, great music, and “lots of ice” would be all they needed for their perfect ceremony.
It was a drag troupe in London that brought together musician Tom Rasmussen and director Hugh Wyld. Soon the pair, who are both writers and then some, struck up a friendship. “I was in love with Hugh for a while before he saw sense at a house party in East London,” says Tom of the moment things took a turn toward romance. “We’ve been together since.”
With just a few months until the ceremony, the planning process was a chilled-out version of tradition. “It was very, very relaxed. We decided to do it in February, and then the wedding was in July,” says Tom. Stationery was swapped for PDFs and WhatsApp messages. Everything except the orders of service, which were illustrated by “the brilliant singer and artist” Hatty Carman, was essentially paperless.
Chic was essential since the word was also their guests’ dress-code cue. “People honestly went all out,” says Tom. Their friend Michael Halpern, of Halpern Studio, offered up a range of runway-ready looks. “He dressed loads of the gals because he is just the master of glamour,” says Tom. Others wore items from their personal collections.
