Warrior Nun creator Simon Barry criticizes the rollout of the fantasy action show's season 2, which dropped alongside many highly-anticipated shows.
Warrior Nun creator Simon Barry has criticized Netflix's rollout of season 2 of the fantasy series because of its timing alongside other highly-anticipated series on the platform. The series follows Ava, a young girl who is forced to become the Warrior Nun after an artifact known as the halo is implanted in her back. The show, which has been praised for its action sequences and queer themes, was canceled by Netflix in December 2022, one month after season 2 dropped.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Speaking with Empire Magazine, Barry said he knew Warrior Nun season 2's launch was going to be difficult because of how many anticipated series, like Wednesday and The Crown season 5, it would be premiering alongside it. While Barry is still working with Netflix on other shows, he is still disappointed with the way Warrior Nun season 2 was handled.
I thought, This is going to be tough, but I didn't want to share that because I didn't want to depress everyone. Can Warrior Nun Be Revived For Season 3? While Warrior Nun season 2's rollout ended up dooming the series to cancelation, viewers of the show have been rallying together since December 2022 to try and bring the series back. One of the biggest pushes to save the series has been international billboards pushing for Warrior Nun season 3 to become a reality.
Barry himself has also been part of the effort to save Warrior Nun, visiting a billboard in Los Angeles across from Netflix's headquarters back in February. When the hashtag "#SaveWarriorNun" reached 10 million tweets, Barry released a deleted scene from Warrior Nun season 2, episode 1 teasing a budding relationship between Ava and Beatrice.
While there are no guarantees that Ava's story will continue, the efforts by Warrior Nun viewers despite season 2's suboptimal launch window indicate a likelihood the series will return. It's still possible that another streaming platform will try and negotiate to continue the series given the major online efforts to have it revived.
