Samyra is the creator behind a video with over 35.4k likes on TikTok titled “Where I shop as a plus sized person,” and she tells, “Shopping as a plus-sized person can be extremely difficult because stores won’t carry your sizes in store even if they carry them online. But I don’t stay in my assigned seat at all — if a store has a plus-size section in the back corner, I’ll still check out the entire store and go through all of the racks.
And if you’ve had traumatizing experiences shopping for clothing in the past, know that you are not alone. “I’m glad stores are starting to integrate plus-size clothing with straight sizes, rather than having that separation of plus-size clothing in a different corner,” remarks Samyra. “But it still takes time to become comfortable with yourself and realize that size doesn’t determine beauty, size doesn’t determine worth, and beauty doesn’t determine worth, either.
