Congress has passed four major stimulus packages to address the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, but the two parties have been split about how to tackle further relief as the country begins to reopen. : Republicans predict a quick, sharp rebound, while Democrats foresee a slow, painful road back.
“Goodbye phase 4,” wrote one Republican official in a text message after jobs numbers were released on Friday morning,But Republicans, despite their hesitation to further relief, could rally behind another bill that focuses on helping Americans return to work. The GOP seems particularly keen on passing liability protections for employers as workers return and Hassett indicated Saturday he sees the issue as one of the “biggest problems” as the country reopens.
