Rather than going completely dark, major American venues like The Wooster Group and the Geffen Playhouse have started streaming some of their plays on YouTube for free. And the National Theatre of the UK has taken its "National Theatre Live" program from cinemas to streaming, also free. When I moved to New York City, it got too expensive to keep seeing that much theater. I was rarely able to see a show for less than $75 per ticket. I landed relatively cheap tickets —around $80 — to an early preview of "," by the creators of "South Park." When the show officially opened, prices were triple that.
