Despite the state pension age rising, many are still hoping to retire early
Kelly Vowles has long wanted to retire before she turns 50. But in order to do so, she has to save aggressively, work long hours and spend very little to enable leaving work almost a decade ahead of official retirement age.
Now, some of the youngest members of the workforce are saving more and spending less so they can retire early, despite facing cost of living pressures including rising rent and mortgage payments. “There is a clear generational shift in financial-planning attitudes,” said Kenny Cummings, wealth planner at Brown Shipley. “Younger generations are prioritising early retirement and taking proactive steps to secure their longer-term wealth goals.”
eople between 25 and 35 have less wealth than prior generations and many risk being worse financially secure than prior generations when they retire. But at retirement, Jordan said, there is ‘no way’ he would completely stop learning. He will teach and mentor younger generations of business starters. He also aims to spend more time on mindfulness. “If you have money and mindfulness you have everything you need,” he said.
