William Wells 'would deliver medicines to people all over the Valley' long before the NHS offered it
Tributes have been paid to a ‘true Valley man’ and dispensing chemist who devoted more than 40 years of his life to providing essential healthcare.
His sister, Barbara Fox, said: “Billy was a very much loved head of the family and he was very well known in the Valley. He was a true Valley man. He loved the Valley. William was born in Waterfoot and lived there with his parents, William and Annie and his sisters, Barbara and Muriel. He attended St Anne’s Primary School and later became a school governor.
In his youth, William would go to a farm with his friend to help with milking the cows and looking after the horses. He was a great supporter of Burnley Football Club and his father would take him to football matches. He was a lifelong member of the Rossendale Male Voice Choir , joining in the 1960s singing as a tenor. The choir sang at his funeral to honour his memory.
“Along with his contemporaries, he enjoyed the tremendous success they achieved in countless festivals across the North West, winning top awards wherever they went.
