Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson and — yes, the Spurs’ maligned defense — ruined Dejounte Murray’s return to the AT&T Center

Popovich’s fledgling Spurs team spent half of Sunday afternoon’s 126-118 victory over Atlanta proving him right.The Spurs surrendered a season-high 83 points in the first half to Dejounte Murray and the Hawks, then allowed a season-low 36 in the second. Zach Collins anchored a depleted Spurs frontcourt with 19 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
It was not only the best combined performance from that duo this season. Their combined 58 points are the most Johnson and Vassell have produced in three seasons as teammates. Vassell has posted back-to-back 20-point outings for the first time since December. By going 12-of-17 against Atlanta, Vassell posted his best shooting game of the season as well.
Graham’s bit of fashion advice for rookie Blake Wesley during a fourth-quarter timeout might have saved the game for the Spurs.
