Terrence Malick's spiritual epic The Tree of Life captured the essence of the human experience, but its ending left a lot of questions.
The Tree of Life was Terrence Malick's epic and spiritual view on the quintessential questions of life, but its ending required a lot of explanation. Although it was released in 2011 to a divided reception, the movie eventually became a critical darling and even won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. It earned spots on several best movies of the decade list and was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Just as Mrs. O'Brien was seen with a sad smile after R.L. crossed over, so too was Jack smiling at the end.
