'I just think it's an absolute travesty if that's going to be lost. The history that it holds, not just for the local area but for the wider area.'

Not even a cold and rainy Wednesday afternoon could stop one group of disgruntled residents from speaking out against plans that will change their neighbourhood forever.

This includes Iron Age bowls and Roman pottery - a special find that indicates evidence of occupation from the Iron Age to Roman Britain. Discoveries also include burials of cremated individuals, unusual 'quernstone' . He explained: "It's really unique in terms of the finds and from the different periods that we've found here, from the Roman period up to 2,000-year-old stuff. There was also an Edward I coin found.

"The developers said we're going to preserve it and I don't know, safeguard it, but ultimately they're not doing that because the proof is in the pudding from what we've seen over at Poulton," Peter added. "The links between this site and the Poulton site - that could have potentially rewritten the history books around here.Val Froggatt is a local resident of Thornton-Cleveleys, with her back garden backing on to the proposed site.

"Bourne Hill has been a fantastic area, I mean there's been geese, snipes - seasonal resting places for animal sanctuary. For birds particularly, Redwings, Fieldfares, all of that and then the usual birds. She added: "It's just a shame when you see a site where you know there's a lot of history on it and they just want to destroy it, rather than try to preserve it. They should be trying to keep it for the kids and for future generations."Two main estates, Trefoil Close and Bluebell Close back on to the proposed site.

Just like many other locals and his neighbours, the proposed plans will back directly on to his back garden - meaning what was once an area of natural beauty with miles of fields and greenery, could soon become a building site. Not only that, but some neighbours are questioning their privacy when the plans come in to place.

Christine Spragg doesn't feel too bothered about the building work and housing, but is curious about the pumping station and if it'll affect the value of the properties nearby and if there will be any recurring problems from it being built. When LancsLive visited the area, we were told by a few residents that the homes backing on to the site will have a water pumping station built right outside their homes.

New homes will look into back gardens Neighbour Dawn also mentions this issue, saying: "It is a hill, it isn't a flat, there's a reason it's called Bourne Hill. So a lot of the neighbours, some of us have quite small back gardens. “Across the way where the Iron Horse is, all of that was fields. Up towards the industrial estate, all of that was fields. They've built nearly over 1,000 houses in the last couple of years.

"My question is for them, when will it start to make a difference? Is it 500? Is it 1,000? Is it 2,000?"
