Stephens & Graham has become known globally for its ability to produce the highest quality tartan carpets on the market which are sought after by the rich and famous
Stephens & Graham is located in an industrial estate in the South Lanarkshire town and is operated by three people who create the iconic Scottish product. John McIlvouge, who recently saved Mortons Rolls, purchased the business 12 years ago, however, it has been a successfully run family operation since 1947.
"We are maybe just a wee company but we do provide carpets to very high end locations like Balmoral, Buckingham Palace and even Trump's golf course in Aberdeen. We also supply some very high end department stores in Manhattan as well."There is a lot of stuff we do out of this little factory in Rutherglen."
"It's crazy to think that the whole world is watching something like The Crown and a niche business in Rutherglen supplied the carpets." "He was having a party and he wanted this tartan carpet. We told him it would take six weeks to make and another thre to four weeks to deliver. Splashing the cash on a massive tartan carpet might not be within everyone's price range but the factory do offer plenty of rugs which can be purchased.
