The Rig is no slick supernatural thriller - it's clumsy and naff Review: ⭐⭐⭐
, who plays Rose, the oil company’s on-board shill – uptight, numbers-obsessed and toeing the corporate line.Already strained relations are pushed further by the first episode’s climax: mouthy but well-meaning Baz falling from a comms tower, even though we definitely saw him clip his safety harness securely. With massive internal injuries and no chance of a medical evacuation, young Baz looks done for until he miraculously wakes up albeit somewhat… changed.

With Alwyn warning that “if you keep punching holes in the earth, eventually the earth’s going to punch back”, the drama is hardly a subtle metaphor for man’s comeuppance for draining the planet’s resources. But this is balanced out by the message that real communities depend on jobs that the fossil fuel industry provides, presenting quite the ethical quandary.
