The real 'Bank of Dave' - Burnley's kind-hearted businessman who took on fat cats and inspired Netflix biopic
Dave Fishwick is no stranger to the people of Burnley. The kind-hearted businessman showed "out of touch" bankers how it's done after he used his own fortune to set up the 'Bank of Dave'.
Now the 51-year-old has made his fortune by running the country’s largest supplier of minibuses. He has since become the proud owner of a helicopter, as well as a Ferrari. Dave said at the time: "“This is the worst recession the world has ever seen and we’ve still got bankers taking massive bonuses and squandering taxpayers’ money. It has to stop. I think it’s absolutely disgusting.
“What they do now is they help themselves. The problem is it’s a bit like when Northern Rock changed from being a building society into being a bank in 1997. Once they change over into a bank, it means they’re then run for shareholders and they’re run for directors and they’re run for people who are trying to make a massive amount of money – where as building societies are run for people who are part of them.
