Rory Best's local club has major plans for its centenary year in 2025/6
Banbridge is one of the marquee names in Ulster rugby, with a storied history going back almost a century and a list of Ireland international caps that includes the legendary Rory Best, his brother Simon and former Lions squad member Tyrone Howe.
“We have a new assistant coach as well to join Rob Logan's team in Paddy McAllister, who used to play for Ulster, Connacht and Gloucester. He's bedded in very well and the players like what he does.” The club’s full-time rugby development officer Charlie Farrell works with local primary and secondary schools to spread the word about Banbridge RFC and unearth local talent, and then there’s mixed-ability rugby, which makes the game accessible for people who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity.
Off the pitch, plans are in place to completely revamp and extend the clubhouse in time for the centenary season in 2025/26. Phase one is new changing rooms with shower cubicles and disabled toilets, and a gym that will be twice its current size. Phase two will expand the function room where the club hosts pre-match receptions for every Energia AIL game, while phase three will be focused on extending the bar.
