But Russ, an avid fantasy-sports player with a background in commercial real estate, had a kernel of an idea that would lead to their next venture: What if there was a fantasy product designed to be played with friends that wasn't beholden to the pro sports calendar?
The company closed in April a $7 million Series A round led by Point72 Ventures and Goodwater Capital, bringing its total funding to $10 million. Champions Round makes money today mainly from the cash-based contests on its platform. Looking ahead, it plans to introduce other revenue streams, including collectibles, livestreams, and advertising.
