The Eisenhower Tunnel turns 50 years old on Wednesday. But before it was completed, the only way over the Continental Divide was Loveland Pass.
The pass was the original horse and wagon route to the west side of the Continental Divide. The first automobile crossed Loveland Pass on Sept. 29, 1929, when it was still an unpaved wagon road.
