More than 120 MPs across the country are not seeking re-election
Dozens of MPs have announced that they will be standing down since the general election was called last week. More than 100 MPs from across the UK had already said they would not be seeking re-election before Rishi Sunak revealed polling day would be on July 4.
Nationally, he is best known for his role as the chair of the 1922 Committee of Conservative backbenchers which he has held since 2010. During that time he has presided over several no confidence votes for former Prime Ministers Theresa May and Boris Johnson. Mr Wragg had previously taken a 'short break' from politics in August 2022 due to 'severe' anxiety and depression. Announcing his decision not to seek re-election three months later, he said: "It is a privilege to be the Member of Parliament for Hazel Grove."
James Grundy , Leigh James Grundy announced that he will step down as Leigh's MP soon after the general election was called last week. The former Wigan councillor became the first Conservative MP to win in the constituency which had been held by Labour for nearly 100 years until 2019.
