In terms of effectiveness, they were very middle-of-the-road, better than the white napkins at removing fry grease, but otherwise unexceptional.Appearance: Almost identical to Burger King, but embossed with the Golden Arches. In fact, the napkins were so similar, a couple of our testers were certain the two chains use the same supplier.We liked the subtlety of the design.
One of our testers described this napkin as possessing a “nubble” and said that the texture made her think of absorbency. Sure enough, the napkin performed the best in the water spill test. “Perhaps a liquid-forward company would care more about picking up liquids,” another tester remarked.The print on the napkins claims that they are 100 percent recycled and 50 percent post-consumer fiber.
If a napkin can be normcore, that would be the Five Guys napkin, which resembles nothing more than a folded paper towel. “I think they’re iconic,” one tester said, “They literally just went to the dollar store and got a fucking like roll of napkins.” That being said, this napkin performed quite well in ketchup and grease-related testing, which is important for a restaurant that sells mostly burgers and fries. One tester determined it was the best napkin for taking ketchup off of fingers. And when it was put through the test of resting fries on napkins and checking the grease mark, it did not bleed through. If you are in the inevitable situation of having to use a napkin as a plate, Five Guys is the way to go.
