The Exorcist: Deceiver will be the second film in director David Gordon Green's planned sequel trilogy to original The Exorcist movie. What To Expect From The Exorcist Sequel Trilogy The Exorcist: Believer is a direct sequel to The Exorcist, as Burstyn will reprise her role as Chris from the original movie. However, The Exorcist: Believer will consider the other entries in The Exorcist franchise canon, including two sequels and two prequels. This is in contrast to Green's Halloween film trilogy, which ignored the events of every movie in the franchise except the 1978 original.
In The Exorcist: Believer trailer, it's implied that the original demon, Pazuzu, is responsible for Angela and Catherine's possessions.
