In an era of life hacking, shortcuts, and effective time management, is it any surprise that the espresso martini would find legs again?
The Espresso martini should be a crest symbol of process optimization. And at the end of evening, it’s a perfect storm of buzzy consciousness, cementing the general perception that the night is still young.
For the sake of comparison, I decide to single out one of the city’s top tier restaurant bars, and settle on, consistently included on the World’s Best list. It’s fair to say my expectations were high, so perhaps I was unduly surprised to find that the restaurant’s new bar area could easily be mistaken for a business class lounge at LaGuardia Airport.
I end my tour at Bar Pisanello, the new corner bar across from the always busy Via Carota, known mostly for their Cacio Pepe . I order the drink and watch the bartender make it, clocking the methodology. They also use Mr. Black and freshly ground espresso made on the spot from their small kitchen area. I can’t help but ask how popular this drink is becoming. The stocky bartender whose name I couldn’t make out over the noisy Friday crowd rolls his eyes.
