BBC crime documentary The Detectives continues on Tuesday night as cameras follow Greater Manchester Police’s dedicated organised crime unit in Rochdale.
Cameron’s hand was partially reattached, but then required a further five surgeries in the two years since the attack just to maintain 60 percent use of his arm. He said he was physically and mentally scarred by the events in a police interview a few weeks later in episode two of the programme. He continues in a later scene: “The first hit was on my left hand side just under my armpit. It went that far in he had to yank it back out.
In episode three - which airs on BBC2 on Wednesday night and which is already available on BBC iplayer - more is revealed on how his life panned out. At the beginning of the hour-long show, he is seen talking to officers about his ordeal as he prepares for the retrial of his case. At the retrial, Cameron gave evidence again and responded with relief and jubilation when police told him his attacker will be in jail for 18 years. He then does not feature extensively for the remainder of the episode.
