creatorwent a bit far with this one.” In the final moments of season five’s episode “The Way Ahead,” we jump to a dance floor where the 1992 hip-hop single “Don’t Sweat the Technique” is playing and two men are break-dancing on the ground. A crowd is gathered around them, includingwho watches amused in his double-breasted suit, a contrast to everyone’s casual attire.
The sequence is not fantasy, though: It is a reenactment of an actual appearance Prince Charles made in 1985, during which the heir to the throne winningly got out on the dance floor during a Youth Meets Industry course associated with his Prince’s Trust charity. The public seemed just as incredulous then as it might now.
“Throwing royal decorum aside, Prince Charles got down on his knees with a group of youngsters at a workshop for the unemployed and joined them in break-dancing,” reported the Associated Press in 1985. The article continues: “‘He’s very good, he got his foot movements right,’ said Dwayne Smith, who enticed the prince into joining him and two other youngsters on Friday. ‘He said no, he couldn’t do it, but I said come on. He asked me to give him some dancing lessons.’”
