Recognizing Black women and queer people of color as targets of police violence is imperative when discussing police brutality, said Andrea Ritchie, a police misconduct attorney and expert in police violence against women of color and LGBTQ people.
“Everything that happens to Black men happens to Black women happens to Black queer and trans people,” Ritchie told HuffPost. “If we’re concerned about police violence against Black people then certainly we need to include police violence against all Black people.” Women and LGBTQ people of color face police violence at alarmingly high rates.
