Lorraine Edwards fell victim to a mobile phone scam and is raising awareness so others know what to look out for
A woman is warning others after her phone was cut off and she was left in hundreds of pounds of debt after falling victim to a phone scam.
The couple were victim to numerous emails and texts from O2 asking for a payment of £1,179.34 for the phones. When Lorraine first asked her husband if he had purchased the phones, he denied it but did say he had spoken to someone at O2. She said: “Apparently the person who rang my husband asked if he would like a discount of 30% for being a loyal customer to which he agreed…. He then asked if he could speak to Lorraine Edwards as I am the account holder and my husband explained that I was at work.
“I immediately rang O2 and explained that I hadn’t ordered these. While talking to O2, another phone was ordered in my name and the lady was able to cancel it.” The phones were collected the following day and this was when it became clear that something was going wrong.
