Sir Hiram Maxim is thought to have been upset by the 'toothless design'
Drawing in tens of thousands of visitors each year, Blackpool Pleasure has its own unique charm of sheer entertainment and unparalleled historical importance.
Sir Hiram Maxim's Captive Flying Machines opened at the Pleasure Beach in 1904, making it one of the oldest rides of its kind in Europe. However, Sir Hiram himself didn't actually like the ride's design, in fact it was thought to "disgust" him.The American-born English inventor designed the ride in order to raise money for his attempts to be the first man to fly the measured mile.
Not only was Sir Hiram a well-versed theme park ride creator, but it was also thought that he may have invented the incandescent light bulb prior to Thomas Edison, but the latter inventor had a better understanding of lengthy patent law.
