These ideas so ingrained they limit our dating pool – and mean we might miss out on someone good for us, says life coach Michelle Elman
One way to improve things this year, according to Elman, is to ditch some of these ‘dating rules’ and stop repeating generalisations like the tongue-in-cheek but widely used “men are trash” and the lofty “love conquers all” and “all the good ones are taken” . in 2023, Michelle Elman’s hope is that we should strive for more subtlety in the way we discuss dating“This phrase suggests that everyone’s looking for the same sort of person,” says Elman. “Yet everyone has different things they like, different turn-offs, different interests. A ‘good one’ to one person is not a ‘good one’ to another.” Then there’s the fact that categorising people into “good” or “bad” love interests means not allowing for humans to evolve and change and learn.
