Texas women's basketball forward Aaliyah Moore to undergo season-ending ACL surgery
Texas forward Aaliyah Moore drives around Utah forward Kelsey Rees in the Longhorns’ win in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.AUSTIN — Texas sophomore forward Aaliyah Moore is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee and will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 season, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.
A former McDonald’s All-American and two-time Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year, Moore was averaging 11.8 points on 54.2 percent shooting and 5.1 rebounds before tearing her left ACL five minutes into last Sunday’s 107-54 win over Alabama State. “I want to thank my teammates, our coaching staff and the athletic training staff and team doctors at Texas for their support during this difficult time,” Moore said in a statement. “I’m grateful to have such a family atmosphere at Texas and people who care about me both on and off the court. I know God has a plan for me and I’m going to work as hard as I can to be able to rejoin my teammates on the court. I’m going to attack the rehab process and be the best teammate I can from the sidelines.
Moore suffered an ankle injury three games into her freshman season and missed eight games.
