He was an offensive analyst before a surprise promotion to interim offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide’s 35-31 loss to Clemson in the 2017 national title game. After a detour to the NFL, he returned as Saban’s offensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020, winning a national title that final season. A lot of people who make a living scouting and projecting believe Texas redshirt freshman Quinn Ewers has even greater pro potential than Young, who’s been dinged for his height and slight frame. But that possible future is a long way off for Ewers as he heads into his second career start.
“He has got speed; he has got power,” Saban said. “He is a very instinctive runner, sets up his blockers well, has a burst and has great hands, a good receiver. This guy is as good of an all-around back as there probably is in the country.”
