According to the FBI’s 2022 Elder Fraud Report, Texas ranks number 3 in the nation on victims over the age of 60 being scammed. We spoke to an elderly couple who made a bad decision and lost their life savings.
“Made us feel like they were doing the right thing and they were going to take care of us,” said scam victim Dennis Shockey. “Across the nation , the crime is increasing exponentially,” says Supervisor Special Agent Lee McLoy from FBI San Antonio. “We get 10 to 50 calls a week reporting the same thing, I was told to transfer money , and I didn’t entirely know what was going on how do I get my money back,” says McLoy.
