Park superintendent Brandon Lopes-Baca knows a win for Texas when he sees it. Adding 515 acres to Honey Creek State Natural Area will help do just that.

Originally set to become a development, Lopes-Baca says the $25 million purchase is essential to protecting the Honey Creek watershed, surrounding eco-system and drinking water that could have been disrupted by construction. Ultimately, it was a good deed that got this deal done. Landowners Ronnie and Terry Urbancyzk told Spectrum News they could have made five times the amount by selling to developers, but their family’s love for the land and Texas won out.
