Dallas biotech hub Pegasus Park could house a headquarters site for the federal government’s new biomedical research agency after a coalition of Texas cities...

While the original pitch for the Lone Star State came in the form of an open-ended plan outlining the unique strengths of each major city, Friday’s application from Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and a consortium management firm laid out specifics, including choosing Pegasus Park as the proposed physical hub location.

The battle for the ARPA-H hub will be competitive, with the Dallas, Austin and San Antonio delegation likely up against bids from biotech homes like Silicon Valley or North Carolina’s Research Triangle. A Houston coalition spearheaded by the Texas Medical Center will also throw its hat in the ring for the customer experience hub,Lyda Hill Philanthropies is a Dallas-based organization dedicated to funding advancements in science and nature, including at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

The argument for this Texas team rests less on the physical location of Pegasus Park than on the potential for collaborations across most of the state’s major cities. The group has support from stakeholders in College Station and El Paso, among other Texas locales. “We strongly believe that the North Texas region has both the existing medical infrastructure, as well as the diverse and dedicated workforce and patient populations, the ARPA-H will need to meet its mission,” the legislators wrote.
