“The state’s getting bigger, more people are moving here,” said Daniel Oney, research director for the Texas Real Estate Research Center at Texas A&M University. “That tends to drive growth, no matter what’s happening in the economic cycle.”
“The fact that every single industry in Texas has sustained positive growth over the year is a testament to the strength of Texas employers, large and small, and the health of our economy,” TWC Commissioner Aaron Demerson said in a statement. Texas added more jobs over the past year than any other state, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Over 534,000 new jobs have been created in the state in the 12-month period.
Jay Denton, chief analytics officer for compensation software firm LaborIQ, said the low unemployment rate and low availability of talent is a long-term concern nationally, so the fact that Texas’ labor force is still growing is good news for employers.
