Arkansas guard Anthony Black passes against Texas A&M during the first half of an NCAA college basketball game in the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament, Friday, March 10, 2023, in Nashville, Tenn. NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Texas A&M’s time in Music City nearly lasted about as long as a sad country song.

Fresh-legged A&M had received one of the tournament’s four double-byes and did not play until Friday. The Razorbacks had defeated seventh-seeded Auburn 76-73 on Thursday night in the second round, to earn a third game against the Aggies this season. The teams had split their previous two games, with each winning at home.

ESPN earlier Friday projected the Aggies as a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and that estimation likely will not shift much regardless of their fortunes in the SEC postseason party along the banks of the Cumberland River. Still, A&M will happily take a stirring comeback against an old Southwest Conference foe as opposed to heading home earlier than anticipated.
