Texas trails Alaska, Nebraska and North and South Dakota as hardest-working states.

In average workweek hours, Texans rank a little higher, placing fourth on the list. Americans, on average, work aboutan average of 4.6 paid days off in 2021. According to WalletHub, some Americans fear that if they take time off, they will look less dedicated to the job than other employees, risking a layoff. Others worry about falling behind on their work or are concerned that the normal workflow will not be able to function without them.

The study took into account direct work factors, such as workweek hours and employment rate, and indirect work factors, like average commute time. All 10 factors were weighted differently and graded on a 100-point scale., the second-biggest monthly gain of the year. Through the first seven months of 2022, Texas grew jobs at an annualized rate of 6.1% — far ahead of the U.S. rate of 3.8%.

Data used in the study came from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Travel Association, Gallup, the Annie E.
