Icon Sportswire/Icon Sportswire via Getty Imageshas made the first major addition to his staff. Matt Burke, who spent the last season as the Cardinals’ defensive line coach, will be the Texans’ defensive coordinator, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.
Burke, 46, spent six years in collegiate coaching before beginning his career in the NFL. He’s been an NFL assistant for 19 seasons and was the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator from 2017 to 2018 under former coach Adam Gase. Miami ranked 27th in scoring defense & 31st in rushing defense in Burke’s final season.
The Texans fielded their worst rushing defense in franchise history in 2022, and they’ll be expected to improve under Ryans. The 49ers allowed the NFL’s second-fewest rushing yards per game in Ryans’ final season as defensive coordinator.
