Texans' Derek Stingley Jr. gets first career interception and gives ball to his dad
Houston Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. intercepts a pass intended for Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Zay Jones during the second half of an NFL football game in Jacksonville, Fla., Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022. The father of the 2022 third-overall pick said he knew his son was going intercept a pass against the Jaguars Sunday.
“We talked about it before the game,” Stingley Sr. said. “I said ‘hey I think this is the day when you’re going to get you one and I want you to bring it to me.’ We basically talked it into existence.”The Jaguars had the ball at Houston’s 7-yard line in the third quarter. They were facing second-and-short when quarterback Trevor Lawrence rolled out of the pocket and tried to hit wide receiver Zay Jones, who was running a crossing route.
But Stingley stepped in front of the pass and picked it off. He ran it a few yards out of the end zone before he was tackled at the 2-yard line.It was a critical play in the
