has elected to construct the new manufacturing facility because it is just a 7-hour drive from the Gigafactory Texas and the company’s headquarters in Texas.Tesla previously inked a deal with the state of Nuevo Leon in mid-2022 to have its own dedicated lane constructed at the border crossing to the U.S. in the state. This lane was established to help reduce wait times for cargo being transported from Tesla suppliers in Mexico to the factory in Texas.Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in late February.
The announcement came after a call between Obrador and Elon Musk when the president voiced concerns about water scarcity in the Nuevo Leon region and suggested that the factory be located closer to Mexico City. The issue was resolved when Tesla committed to using recycled water throughout the entire manufacturing process.
