As a “once in a generation” winter storm swept through the country Thursday, frigid temperatures and blustery winds blasted North Texas, disrupting holiday travel during one of the busiest times of the year.
“Our crews are out and about and are equipped to work in cold weather,” said Dunn, adding additional resources will be on hand for repairs through the holidays. On Wednesday, Gov. Greg Abbott said he anticipated the grid would “perform with ease,” and hoped the trust lost in 2021 would be “earned over the next few days.”Lake said Texans can see the impact of their “landmark reforms” in the grid’s performance during this February’s storms and“We have more power available than ever before, we’ve got more backup fuel and we’ve mapped the critical interactions between the natural gas system and our power generators,” Lake said.
For those without refuge from the cold before then, Dallas, Fort Worth and other North Texas cities raced to set up emergency shelters and recreation centers. “It’s cold out there,” he said. “But we’ve got a warm place to stay, plenty of food and blankets here.”
