Those registered to vote in Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, and Stockton-on-Tees were able to take part in the election.
The Tees Valley mayoral election was held on the same day as the local elections, with more than 2,500 council seats up for grabs across 107 local authorities in England.
