Niles police said a 17-year-old was killed by a motorist Sept. 25, and that the teen had been lying in the road before he was struck.
A 17-year-old boy died after being struck by an SUV in Niles early Monday morning, according to Niles Police, who noted that the boy had been lying in the street before he was struck.
Police responded to the scene at West Ballard Road near Milwaukee Avenue at 2:29 a.m. Monday. Paramedics took the victim to Lutheran General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.In a statement, police said their initial investigation showed that the victim had already been lying on the road when he was struck by a Nissan Xterra going east on the 8200 block of West Ballard Road. Police said the driver was not suspected to be impaired.
Police said the 21-year-old driver was not aware he had hit the victim and is cooperating with the investigation.Police said they are investigating why the victim was lying on the road. The Major Crash Assistance Team is assisting with the investigation.Advertisement
