Gentry was arrested on marijuana possession charges, according to law enforcement authorities.
Gentry, 70, of Fort Payne, Alabama, was booked into the Cherokee County Jail Monday morning, where he was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia., the arrest was made during a traffic stop. that he was aware of the incident but Gentry had no immediate comment.
Gentry and his cousins Randy Owen and Jeff Cook formed the band Alabama in 1969. It was originally called Wildcountry. The band had numerous hits in the late 1970s and the 1980s, including “Mountain Music,” “Song of the South,” “Roll On ” and “Dixieland Delight.”
