The Texas Republican responded that “most of them went into this nomination scared of their own shadow.” Both Cruz and Cornyn voted against Jackson’s nomination, which was opposed by all but three Republicans.During the confirmation hearing, Cornyn pressed Jackson about her work as a federal public defender representing Guantanamo Bay detainees and quizzed her about how the high court has established new rights over time, such as in the landmark 2015 Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage.
