TEACHER DANIEL Kebede, who is in the running to become the first black boss of Britain’s top education trade union, the National Education Union , said he is determined to ensure the union remains a force to be reckoned with.
, who previously held the position of president within the union – which has over half a million members – will face off against Niamh Sweeney, the current Deputy Secretary General.: “It’s an honour to be the first ever black General Secretary candidate in the 200 year history of our union.” “I am absolutely determined to lead a union that improves the lives of our members and children – one that lifts the pay of educators, wins fair funding for education, reduces workload to manageable levels, fights to end child poverty and returns joy to our classrooms.”
