, “the storm sealed it.” Owner Joseph Peter Tarantino IV says he’s decided to permanently close the casual Italian-American restaurant that mostly attracted musical-goers on their way to Fair Park.
“Things kept getting worse, and the storm was more than icing on the cake,” he says. “Every time, I tried to adjust and reinvent. But at the end of the day, it never took off fast enough to sustain myself through a rocky road.”The restaurant served homey renditions of Tarantino’s Italian family recipes, like his mom’s meatballs and his aunt’s lentils with ditalini pasta. He was particularly proud of his own recipe for New Orleans’ white chocolate bread pudding.
Tarantino and his partners had recently closed the restaurant temporarily while the Music Hall at Fair Park received a two-month remodel. They were planning to reopen this week with a regular schedule serving pizzas and a menu leaning more toward an Italian-American pub, he says. Approximately 80% to 90% of business came from the theater, and looking back, he says he should’ve shuttered the restaurant two months ago.
