Screen Rant stopped by RenfieldlMovie's NYC premiere to chat with some of the people responsible for the Dracula sequel you didn't know you needed. See what Nicolas Cage, Chris Brewster, and Brandon Scott Jones had to say about Renfield here:
Everyone knows Count Dracula, as portrayed by Bela Lugosi in the 1931 film that bears his name. Fewer know his servant, or "familiar," Robert Montague Renfield. After nearly one hundred years in the shadow of his master, Renfield finally gets his day in the sun, so to speak, with Renfield, a modern-day sequel to the Dracula mythos.
Screen Rant attended the red carpet premiere of Renfield and spoke with several of the people responsible for bringing the story to life. We spoke with Brandon Scott Jones, who plays the leader of the support group that inspires Renfield to stand up for himself and confront his self-esteem issues. We spoke with Chris Brewster, the second unit director responsible for the film's incredible, top-tier action sequences.
Screen Rant: You're a character who doesn't really have an analogue from any of the old stories. Can you tell me about the freedom that entails? Chris Brewster: There's a smidgen of blood and excitement in this one. I don't think I've ever worked on a project, in 20 years, where there's more blood and gore and humor and action and everything all kind of put into one.
Screen Rant: I know just how insane the violence can get... Insane and delightful. We're talking about the level of violence where the bad guys have exes over their eyes when they die. So it's not too horrific. But can you tell me about, was there any moment of anyone going, "Are you serious, man? C'mon. Can we do this?"
